Mercy Rule Shutout Secures OHSAA Sectional Title for Hillsdale Baseball
JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — Hillsdale left no doubt in the Sectional Final on Friday, May 23, with a dominant 10–0 shutout over Smithville in just five innings to claim the Sectional Championship.
The Falcons struck early with four runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding to their lead in the second, fourth, and fifth. The team pounded out 13 hits, including two doubles and a triple, and drove in 10 runs to end the game by mercy rule.
Offensively, Kyle Turk had a standout night, scoring 3 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 stolen base. Three other players, Brock Bower, Kael Lewis, and Deacon Boreman, who also had a double, each scored twice. K Lewis added a triple. Hillsdale also added 3 stolen bases, 1 sacrifice bunt, and stayed aggressive on the basepaths.
Defensively, the Falcons got a complete-game performance from Kael Lewis, who allowed just 2 hits and no runs, walking 3 and striking out 5. The one-run-rule win sends Hillsdale to the District Semifinals.
Next up: Hillsdale faces LaBrae High School in Leavittsburg on Tuesday, May 28, at 5 PM.
